SESSION - 1 - CALLING OF A SERVANT OF GOD

SESSION 1

CALLING OF A SERVANT OF GOD

- Rev. Dr. D. D. Manoharan

What is calling?

Calling is an invitation from God, the creator of heaven and earth for a specific purpose. It is not a calling from any man. He calls people to accomplish His divine plan through them. God wants people to accomplish His plan and purpose on this earth. Mary was essential to fulfil God’s purpose of Jesus’ coming to this world (GAL – 1: 1)

1.       The one who has a call of God, he will be always enthusiastic in fulfilling the divine purpose of God not of the human plan. Calling makes it clear to have a clear understanding of the Divine calling for which we are called. The enthusiasm comes from the inner heart to serve God. Not from the surface level.

2.      Calling is devoting one’s life to serve in the local church or ministry fulltime. – the one who is called by God, devotes himself for the call of God and his service which is 100% surrenders only to fulfil the call of God. There will not be any doubt about his calling even in the midst of troubles and difficulties.

There are two kinds of calling we can see in the Bible:-

a.       General calling – every believer is called to fulfil the great commission of our Lord Jesus Christ mentioned in Mat 28:19,20. It is not a fulltime ministry along with the job or work we do for our living this calling comes immediately after our salvation.

b.       Full time calling – to became a pastor, NGO, organisation leaders etc we need full time calling. This calling will be specific from God. It is an individual and personal call which comes directly from God. Calling can be experienced individually and personally in their own lives.  This calling will be clear enough to explain to others without any doubt. If we don’t have clarity on our calling we may stumble on our way.

3.       Calling changes our thoughts, attitudes and behaviours towards the ministry.

4.
Calling is not an option it is must in the life of a servant of God. Calling is not an appointment because it demands job and salary which is considered as a work. Calling does not demand payment but God is faithful to fulfil our all needs.

5.       The one who is called by God will expect only the provision from God not any salary and payment from anyone else.  God is interested in providing everything to the one whom he has called.
